Katharine Wilson-Journalist

About me

Hello, I’m Katharine Wilson, a digital and print reporter based in Washington, D.C. I am passionate about delivering political and local news in a helpful, human-focused way.

This spring, I'm covering the Texas congressional delegation for The Texas Tribune. I am also writing investigative and feature stories for my student newspaper, The Diamondback, as a senior staff writer.

Last year, I covered Congress, the Supreme Court and the Democratic National Convention for Capital News Service with a focus on news important to Maryland. On the weekends, I interned with CNN Inside Politics helping track the 2024 presidential and congressional elections. I previously interned with NBC, Montgomery Community Media, The Herald-Mail and College Park Here & Now.

I specialize in writing features, data-based investigations, and breaking news stories with a politics focus. I have covered city, county, state and national politics over the last three years. As a local news reporter, I have covered a wide range of issues including businesses, gentrification, education, and the criminal justice system.

Outside of politics and local news, I am passionate about arts and entertainment reporting. I produce a biweekly pop culture news show for WMUC-FM radio and have written extensive features about local artists for various publications.

After I graduate from the University of Maryland in May 2025, I plan to spend my career writing about the intersections of policy and everyday people.
